Singapore Management University Open House Went Virtual

A premier university in the region, the Singapore Management University (SMU) is internationally recognised for its world-class research and distinguished teaching. Every year, their Open House weekend has over 10,000 attendance interested to learn more about University life and studies. This year, faced with challenges and concerns over the coronavirus situation, the Open House weekend was moved online.

Solution

MONI designed and built an interactive and immersive website for SMU on Drupal 7, with the aim to create an online experience that best reflects students’ lives at SMU. The original Open House webpage was planned and built to help students navigate through the campus, with fun interactions and clear schedules displaying activities during the weekend. With the decision to bring the Open House online, MONI supported the team to create the online experience in two weeks.

Attend Webinars and Chat with Professors Real-Time

Prospects can attend live webinars and interact with professors and students in real time. A week before the Open House Weekend, prospects can discover and register the webinars on the landing page by selecting their available time, areas of interests and programs. Real-time Q&A was available with the interactive chat where prospects can get their questions answered by professors right away.

360-degree Virtual Tour

Although attendees could not physically visit the University, they can experience and explore the campus through the 360-degree Virtual Tour on the website. Through navigating the interactive virtual tour, they could discover state-of-the-art facilities and experience the SMU culture and spirit online.

User Experience at Its Best

The site was designed with customer behaviour and preferences in mind. Optimise for on-the-go mobile users, a sticky side-swipe submenu was implemented to reduce the number clicks required to reach a page.

Results

Over the Open House weekend, the site had 20,000 visitors, an increase of over 3 times the traffic versus the year prior. SMU was able to uphold their Open House success despite the challenges.  Through the support of bringing its offline Open House online, MONI assisted SMU to demonstrate the University’s adaptability and focus on providing one of the best education and environment for its students in Asia.
